It starts to weigh heavy on your confidence (physically and mentally) when you want to wear a sexy strapless dress or a cute sleeveless tee. If you decide to wear something sleeveless, you are constantly focused on not raising your arms too high or making sure no one sees your pits.
I know that having to always be aware of your armpits in strapless clothing gets tiring so keep reading for some ways that will help lighten your underarms.
Dark underarms can come from a number of things. First off genetics play a huge role in your skin. Particularly Black people have problems with discoloration of the skin under their arms; on the elbows; and on the knees. This can also be a problem with some Caucasians people as well.
Some other factors that come into play are excessive shaving, different products and deodorants that you use on your skin, pregnancy, changes in your hormones, or medical conditions.
Before you can start solving this problem you need to have an idea if this is medical. There is a medical condition called Acanthosis Nigricans that can cause black underarms. Remember that I am not a medical professional and you should make an appointment to see your dermatologist about help with this condition.
Excessive Shaving
The hair under your arms naturally grow in different directions and when you shave it can easily cause irritation. You should always use shaving cream (or at least soap and water) to provide moisture when shaving. It will more than likely cut down on irritation and dark marks.
Also, shaving does not get to the root of the hair, which give a dark appearance when you shave. This is really not the color of your skin, its just the the hair stubble that you are unable to reach under the skin. The best way to get to the root of the hair is to wax or use a cream hair removal. This will give a smoother feel and cleaner look.
Using products that are bad for your skin
Some people have reactions to certain fragrance or ingredients in deodorants. If you started using a certain product and are noticing darkening of your underarms, you should probably switch to another brand. I would recommend something that is hypoallergenic or something that provides more moisture and aloe to your skin.
Natural Remedies
- Exfoliate your armpits- About once or twice a week you should use a gentle skin cleanser and a luffa to exfoliate dead skin cells from your underarms.
- Natural Food Recipes- Using a lemon juice and honey mixture can definitely help with discoloration. Also, mixtures with papaya and coconut milk can help brighten the skin under your arm.
Other ways to lighten your underarms are bleaching creams and lasers, but I don't believe those are very safe ways to get results. I think there are tons of natural and safe ways to get your desirable underarms.
